Introduction.

In the dynamic realm of real estate, providing users with an immersive and intuitive experience is paramount. This portfolio piece delves into the initiative undertaken to revamp the Property Details Page on Homes.com.au, a leading platform connecting consumers with their dream homes.

The Challenge.

The existing Property Details Page posed challenges in terms of user engagement, information accessibility, and overall visual appeal. Our mission was clear: enhance the user experience by reimagining the interface, streamlining information, and injecting a fresh, modern aesthetic.

Research & Discovery:

Extensive user research laid the foundation for our design decisions. We conducted interviews, surveys, and usability tests to comprehend user pain points, preferences, and behaviors. This research informed every step of our design process, ensuring a user-centric approach.

Key Objectives.

Enhanced Accessibility: Simplify the navigation and ensure all pertinent information is readily accessible.

Engaging Visuals: Create an aesthetically pleasing and modern design to captivate users.

Streamlined Information Architecture: Organize information logically for a seamless user journey.

Responsive Design: Prioritize mobile responsiveness to accommodate users across devices.

Design Solutions

  • Prioritized key property features, placing them strategically for quick access.

Visual Appeal:

  • Overhauled the visual design, incorporating high-quality imagery and a cohesive color scheme.

  • Introduced a responsive image gallery for an immersive property viewing experience.

Information Hierarchy:

  • Restructured the layout to emphasize crucial details such as price, location, and property features.

  • Utilized card-based design to compartmentalize information for clarity.

User-Friendly Interactions:

  • Integrated intuitive interaction elements, such as quick inquiry buttons and an easy-to-use contact form.

  • Implemented real-time updates for property availability and pricing.

Mobile Responsiveness:

  • Ensured a seamless experience on various devices with a mobile-first design approach.

  • Prioritized essential information for mobile users, maintaining a consistent visual language.

Key Takeaways.

User-Centric Approach: Ground decisions in user research to ensure the end product aligns with user expectations.

Visual Harmony: A visually appealing design enhances user engagement and perception of the platform.

Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess user feedback and data analytics to iteratively refine and enhance the user experience.

Rapid wireframing.

I started exploring how similar apps were offering the dish creation feature e.g.MyFitnessPal, UberEats, Doordash, Menulog. They were all very different and apart from MyFitnessPal this was mostly done in a web app not on a mobile device (our MVP release was mobile app only).

Usability testing & findings.

Using invision, I performed A/B testing with a 8 participants to test out the chef variant creation feature.

———

Prototype A: There was some confusion around the mandatory selection and the minimum number of items to be selected.

Prototype B: did not allow the user to select a min selection option for a multi-select variant hence not covering all possible cases.

Note: We didn’t end up proceeding with either prototype A or B as the final version

Revised Prototype.

The insights from the useability testing inspired a third prototype which we tested with 3 additional participants and this performed very well covering different types of variants (optional, mandatory, single select, multi select). It performed better as the user was led down a clear path.

Implemented in productions.

We implemented the feature in production after testing the revised prototype and it was great to see what chefs are creating in production.

This advanced feature wasn’t for everyone but it was great to see 65% of our chefs using it for at least one dish.
